Guidance, not a qualification or eligibility decision. Check current official requirements, provider terms and employer expectations before booking.

Choose the card for the work

Start with the occupation on the vacancy. The Labourer card is for labouring, not proof that you are qualified in a skilled trade. If a job involves a different occupation, use official CSCS guidance to confirm the route. Do not choose a card because its colour is familiar or because a training advert describes it as a quick way onto any site.

Keep the stages separate

For the Labourer route, check the accepted qualification or training alternative, the appropriate CITB Health, safety and environment test, and the separate card application. CITB Health and Safety Awareness is one training option to investigate. Completing learning is not the same as having the card issued. Follow the live CSCS requirements for evidence, timing and validity.

Compare packages like for like

Ask each provider to spell out what it sells: tuition, exam, certificate, HS&E test booking or card-application assistance. A package name may hide separate charges. Check whether you can book any stage directly, and whether an additional administration service is optional. Record unknown amounts before deciding which quote is cheaper.

Check the practical details

Before an online exam, confirm device, identification and examination requirements. Check whether the course works on your available equipment; being able to read a webpage on a phone does not mean an assessment can be taken on that phone. For in-person training, check transport, start times and what happens if you miss a session.

Plan beyond the card

Look at entry-level vacancies and consider travel to sites, start times and required equipment. Keep a record of safe working, reliability and teamwork from real experience. Those examples can strengthen a labouring application without pretending that training makes you an experienced tradesperson. State training or card status precisely: booked, completed, applied for or issued are different.

Your next action

Open the official Labourer card page, confirm the route and obtain an itemised quote. Ask about employer or local support before paying. Recheck renewal rules when you need them rather than relying on an old social-media post. ApplyWell is a planning guide, not a card issuer.
